TEAM(S) WILDERNESS WEAR Maximum Adventure Race - Lysterfield VICTORIA
Team Wilderness Wear’s two worst navigators were let loose with the maps at a max-adventure race recently. It was bound to be chaos! Thankfully a glorious sunny day dawned as Team Wilderness Wear 1 & 2 lined up at the staring line. Simon Knowles and Wilderness Wear’s dark horse of the soccer world and Sales Manager Jon Pote were quietly taking it all in their stride, whilst Delyth (Del) Lloyd teamed up for the first time with husband Matt to test her navigation and Matt’s patience! At the starter’s horn, WW1 and WW2 shot off in opposite directions! On the clockwise course Matt ran along the bank of Lysterfield Lake and swam to checkpoint 1 where Del met him with the kayak. Hot on the heels of the leaders, Del and Matt were the third team back to the bikes. The next section of intricately woven single trails and track closures threw Del’s delicate navigation off course; they overshot checkpoint 7, but accidentally stumbled across number 8 instead!
Sadly this is not allowed so they had to backtrack. In the Meantime on the anti-clockwise course Simon & Jon were travelling well, enjoying the mountain-biking section ... too much! After checkpoint 14 they accidentally omitted the bike-drop transition and continued the day’s pursuit of run-checkpoints by bicycle! Needless to say it was a long detour back to the transition area! Safely back on the run-course, Simon and Jon ran the final section at a good pace and made up some spots along the way. Both teams finished just a few minutes apart, and bar a few navigational glitches both teams travelled well, had fun and learned a lot. In conclusion, Adventure Team members Simon and Del are to be kept well away from the maps at all cost! A fun weekend participating in the ‘live and learn’ philosophy! .......................................................................
